Who: Sharon McGlinchey. Based in Sydney Australia, for the last 33 years, Cumbrian born Sharon (she still has a hint of an accent) is a renowned holistic skin therapist with her own organic skincare company MV Organics. She is passionate about super-pure and organic products, but explaining her initial ideas to customers back in the 90s was, she says, similar to ‘peddling in houmous’. Now she counts actresses Emma Watson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and model Rosie Huntingdon-Whitely, as fans.
Today I’m wearing a little concoction of my own making, using lime, mandarin, lavender and a little bit of frankincense natural essential oils, which I suspend in pure jojoba oil. Jojoba is great to use as a base because it’s not a true oil – oils can turn rancid over time- and is more like the skin’s own sebum in structure. It’s waxy and super fine, absorbs into the skin easily and doesn’t leave oily residue.
I am also a child of the 70s and still ride a motorbike back in Australia, so I often put neat patchouli oil on the back of my neck, on my hair, as I love the stuff. I don’t put it neat on my skin, because it’s too strong, but just touched on the hair, it makes me feel great.
I might make a fragrance oil as part of my range in the future, I have already thought about doing a blend, but I’d have to work on making one that didn’t disappear in a flash, which many essential oil fragrances do.
